Forward Error Correction coding is all we do

It can take years to gain a deep understanding of the theory behind this challenging and interesting field. We have put in the time, partly through active research, and partly simply by force of experience, day in and day out. So we are well versed in the theoretical underpinnings that govern error control systems. But unlike academic researchers, we are held to a higher standard when it comes to implementing an error control solution. We have implemented actual error correction devices to the highest and most competitive commercial standards, and have learned a great deal in the process. (Note to academic researchers -- the preceding was not meant as a slight -- if we have ever been able to touch the outer limits of the field, we freely acknowledge it has always only been done standing on the shoulders of giants).

We Understand ASIC design

Our design staff come from the world of ASIC design, with many years of successful commercial development of semiconductor devices using Verilog. This is in sharp contrast to some of our competitors, who come from an academic background, and don't have the requisite semiconductor industry experience.

An IP module should:

  • Enforce a consistent timing discipline -- all our products use a single clock.

  • Contain no self-timed circuits or derived "clock" signals

  • Separate memory from logic circuits

  • Have consistent interface logic throughout

  • Implement logical and consistent signal naming conventions

  • Be partitioned in a logical and efficient manner, based on prior experience

  • Implement flow control through all external interfaces

  • Be designed with a view to static timing requirements

  • Be designed with power consumption and area consumption in mind
